About the Exhibition

Photography possesses a unique force that can transform perceptions and relationships with time, creating profound connections and vital emotions. It anchors sensations, musicality, vibrations, and a space where sounds and dreams resonate. Photography is an imprint that shifts perspectives, embodying what Leonard Cohen described as the "crack that lets the light in."

Inspired by this insight, Lorraine Thiria uses her photography of "matter," specifically wall matter, to explore this crack, this passage, in an animated and enchanting manner. To Thiria, walls represent a sensitive body in constant apprehension. Their material forms the crack that lets the light in, enchanting our world by revealing the imprints of time and memories, and creating a bridge between past and present, visible and invisible, presence and absence.

By capturing a mural detail, a line, an asperity, a trace, a furrow, or a wound, Thiria's photographs allow viewers to detach from reality, lose all spatial and temporal reference points, and merge into abstraction. Her work aims to paint a fertile abstraction, evoke sensations and emotions, and liberate the imagination, fostering a collective sense of being alive and connected.

About the Artist

Lorraine Thiria was born in Paris, France. Trained in painting at the Versailles School of Mural Art and in plastic arts at École Boulle in Paris, she has established her own business as a painter, creating unique textured walls for clients using pigments, sands, plasters, and oxidized surfaces.

Her work as a painter involves observing, capturing, and utilizing numerous photographs of walls, integral to her artistic process. These images reflect both inner journeys and distant travels, embodying impressions that continually enrich and renew her creative universe.

Thiria describes herself as an adventurer of the sensory world, translating her emotions into photographic images and capturing the language of walls, inhabiting their colorful memories and whispers.

In recent years, Thiria’s photographic approach has evolved into an independent art form, distinct from her painting. Her photographic vision deconstructs reality to capture its abstraction, always accompanied by a pictorial filter that often precedes her gaze.
